  5. oh, thanks, now the song I learned in Girl Scouts many decades ago is in my head! just teasing- I don't think I've seen a picture of the kookaburra before. do they really sit in gum trees? Did this song originate in Australia? Here's the first verse:
    Kookaburra sits on the old gum tree,
    Merry merry king of the bush is he.
    Laugh, Kookaburra, laugh, Kookaburra,
    Gay your life must be!

  9. I discovered a kookaburra for the first time on an Australian blog ! I fell in love with this bird ! I wished I had one here in my garden !

    We see the odd one from time to time in New Zealand - a long flight for a little bird!
